GCF
YAD
“Hope
For Life,” the Young Adult Division of the Greek Children’s
Fund (GCF YAD) is a branch of the Greek Children’s Fund (GCF)
affiliated with Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and
Schneider Children’s Hospital (SCH). GCF YAD was created in
1998 and functions as a separate entity with its own board and committee
members. It is comprised of over 25 college and graduate students
who volunteer their time and services to provide emotional and financial
assistance to children with cancer.
The mission of GCF YAD is to work with GCF members to help Greek,
Cypriot and Greek-American pediatric patients and their families
find comfort in a foreign environment as well as hope for a healthy
future. The objectives of GCF YAD are to build awareness about GCF
among young adults in the Greek-American community, to raise funds
to help the families meet their daily non-medical needs and to organize
activities for the children.
The
devoted committee members of GCF YAD strive to make a difference
in the lives of the children and their families by coordinating
monthly visits to the patients, hosting Christmas, Easter and Vasilopita
parties, golf tournaments, and by working with local business people
to organize fundraisers at restaurants and other social venues for
fundraising purposes.
