THE
GREEK CHILDREN’S FUND ELECTS CHRISTOPHER P. CORONEOS, CFS
AS PRESIDENT AND NEW BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Astoria,
NY, June 12, 2003 - The Greek Children’s Fund (GCF) held its
regularly scheduled elections for officers and members of the board
of directors during their annual meeting on June 4, 2003.
Christopher
P. Coroneos, CFS, was elected President, Eleftheria R. Liberatos
- First Vice President, Nick Nicolaou - Second Vice President, Ismini
Michaels - Treasurer, Peter C. Nanos – Assistant Treasurer,
Mona Zisimopoulos – Secretary, Petros Andronis – Assistant
Secretary. The remaining elected board members that do not hold
an office are: Sam S. Matthews, Stanley Matthews, George Papas,
Irene Kehayas and Nick Pavlou.
“I’d
like to congratulate all of the board members and officers. I hope
that they fulfill their responsibilities as GCF board members over
the next two years with respect and love for the pediatric cancer
patients and their families that are in need” said Stanley
Matthews, GCF Founder.
Mr.
Coroneos is GCF’s third president in its twenty-year history.
In his capacity and in coordination with the rest of the board,
he will be responsible for providing overall direction and leadership
for GCF. Since joining GCF in 1996, Mr. Coroneos has served the
organization in a number of leadership positions. Most recently
as First Vice President, he acted as a GCF liaison with Memorial
Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), with the Greek Children’s
Fund Young Adult Division (GCF YAD) and he actively participated
in GCF fundraisers such as the 2002 dinner dance and Cyprus Night.
“I’m
honored to hold the office of President of the Greek Children’s
Fund. I look forward to working with the adult division of GCF;
GCF YAD and the Greek-American community to raise funds for the
non-medical needs of individuals of Hellenic descent with life-threatening
illnesses “ said Mr. Coroneos.
Mr.
Coroneos succeeds Sam S. Matthews in the role of GCF president.
Mr. Matthews was President of GCF for ten years and a few of GCF’s
notable accomplishments during his tenure are an endowed fund at
MSKCC, the concert of hope at Madison Square Garden and many successful
telethons, dinner dances and fundraisers.

thank all of the GCF members for their support and assistance during
my ten years as President. I will continue to serve GCF in any capacity
I can as a board member and I’d like to extend my best wishes
to Chris Coroneos and the newly elected board members as they continue
GCF’s fundraising activities” said Sam S. Matthews.
About The Greek Children’s Fund
The Greek Children's Fund affiliated with Memorial Sloan - Kettering
Cancer Center (MSKCC) and Schneider Children's Hospital (SCH) provides
financial assistance towards the daily, non-medical needs of Greek,
Cypriot and Greek-American children and their families who are treated
at MSKCC and SCH. One of the primary objectives that GCF has achieved
is an endowed program at MSKCC that will secure its services to
Greek and Cypriot patients in perpetuity.
