On Friday, May 14, 2004

Astoria , NY , April 30, 2004 - The Greek Children's Fund (GCF) is hosting a Sports Auction on Friday, May 14, 2004 at Central Lounge, 20-30 Steinway St. , Astoria , NY 11105 . The event will take place from 7pm to 11pm and all proceeds will go towards providing financial assistance for the daily, non-medical needs of Greek, Cypriot and Greek-American children and their families who come to NY seeking medical treatment.

“Professional sports teams from all over the United States and especially from the NY tri-state area, have been very supportive in donating autographed memorabilia for this auction. We have a lot of popular and highly-sought after items to auction off, which makes this a really exciting event,” said Nick Pavlou, GCF board member and chairman of the event.

Autographed sports memorabilia will be auctioned off throughout the evening. A few of the items up for bid are: signed baseballs by Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter, signed footballs by the NY Jets, a NY Knicks autographed jersey, signed NY Rangers hockey pucks and autographed photos. All items up for bid have certificates of authenticity. “We thank Central and all of the sports teams for helping us organize this fundraiser. It's great to see sports organizations and athletes support GCF as we strive to enhance the lives of children with life threatening diseases and their families,” said Christopher Coroneos, GCF President.

The Sports Auction is the second in a series of fundraisers GCF is hosting in 2004. The next GCF event will be “Greek Night” at Shea Stadium on Friday, June 4, 2004 . For more information on these events contact Nick Pavlou at (718) 640-6105.
