GREEK
CHILDREN’S FUND IS WORKING WITH THE NEW YORK METS TO PROMOTE “GREEK
NIGHT” AT SHEA STADUIM ON AUGUST 12, 2003
Astoria,
NY, April 17, 2003 -
The Greek Children’s Fund (GCF) is partnering with the New York
Mets to promote “Greek Night” at Shea Stadium on August 12, 2003
at 7:10pm when the Mets play the San Francisco Giants. “We encourage
the Greek - American community to attend the game and support the
NY Mets, Greek heritage and GCF,” said Sam Matthews, President of
the Greek Children’s Fund.
GCF
members are selling tickets for this event at $20 each. GCF will
receive a portion of the proceeds from tickets sold through their
organization. Individuals who purchase a ticket from GCF will receive
a specially designed Mets gift pack, sit in an area of the stadium
specifically designated for GCF and each person that purchases seats
before July 15, 2003 will be eligible to win four box seats to a
future Mets game. “Our goal is to organize a really fun and exciting
event that baseball fans of every-age group
can attend and enjoy themselves,” said Manos Diakoumakis, GCF co-chair
of the event.
Individuals
who purchase tickets through GCF will also have the option to take
part in an auction that will give them a chance to be on the field
before the game to accept a Mets Spirit Award on behalf of GCF.
“We’re
thrilled to work with the Mets and to raise funds for children with
life threatening illnesses,” said Nick Pavlou, GCF co-chair of the
event. “We hope that this is the first of many GCF events with
the NY Mets” he said.
“Greek
Night” at Shea Stadium is the second in a series of dinner dances,
concerts and other fundraisers GCF plans to host in 2003 to celebrate
its twentieth anniversary and to reaffirm its commitment to the
pediatric patients with life-threatening diseases and their families.
